Air India Crash in Ahmedabad: Preliminary Report Reveals Critical Error
A preliminary investigation into the June 12 Air India Dreamliner crash near Ahmedabad has revealed that the aircraft lost altitude due to human error. According to the report, both engine fuel control switches were inadvertently moved to the “cutoff” position during descent, cutting off power to the engines. The aircraft then glided for nearly 29 seconds before crash-landing short of the runway. The impact scattered debris across a 37,000-square-meter area. Fortunately, all passengers and crew survived with only minor injuries. Investigators say cockpit procedures were not followed properly, and there was a lapse in crew coordination. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is now examining systemic issues in training and cockpit checklists. Aviation experts have called for stringent reviews of standard operating procedures. The incident, though non-fatal, has sparked serious concerns about safety practices within India's aviation sector and may lead to changes in training and compliance norms.
